Captira Jail Check - User Guide

Ask your AI who was recently booked into a county jail, and check it against your Captira clients, in plain language. No downloads, no spreadsheets, no pasting data.

Connect it (once)

You need an active Captira subscription.

Claude (claude.ai or the Claude app)

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add at the top right, then Add custom connector.

  2. Enter the connector URL supplied with your subscription.

  3. Sign in on the Captira screen that appears and click Allow.

  4. Done. Start a chat and ask away.

ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise)

  1. Open Settings and turn on Developer mode for custom connectors.

  2. Add a custom connector with the same URL.

  3. Sign in on the Captira screen and approve.

  4. In a chat, check the connector is switched on, then ask.

Counties covered today

Texas: Tarrant, Bexar, Jefferson, Fort Bend, Potter and Dallas.

Arkansas: Dallas and Johnson.

Two names appear in both states. If you just say "Dallas" or "Johnson" it assumes Texas and tells you which one it used. Say "Dallas AR" for the Arkansas county.

Counties do not all publish the same things, and the assistant will tell you what a particular county can and cannot answer. Two worth knowing up front:

  • Dallas, Texas publishes police arrests as open data, which is roughly one in eight of the county's bookings and runs two to three days behind. For any named person it can also pull the full county jail record, including bond. It cannot produce a complete list of everyone booked today, because the county does not publish one.
  • Fort Bend, Texas publishes who is in custody now, but no booking dates, so it cannot answer "who was booked today".

What to ask

Type naturally:

  • "Who got booked in Tarrant today?"
  • "Who got arrested in Bexar in the last 24 hours?"
  • "Are any of these my defendants?" (checks your Captira account, nothing to paste)
  • "What's the bond on the third one?"
  • "Save Tarrant to my jails", then later just "who got booked in my jails today?"

What you get back

A clean report: summary tiles, a searchable and sortable table, and charges colored by severity. It always shows the report date and names the source it read, so you can check it yourself.

While it works you will see live status, and afterwards a short list of next steps you can ask for, such as checking the roster against your clients or looking someone up.

What it will and will not do

  • It will not ask you to upload files or paste data. It reads the jail source and your Captira account directly.
  • Matches are candidates, not confirmations. Always verify by photo or record before you act on one. Names repeat, and jails publish limited detail.
  • If a source is down or unreadable, it says so. It will not invent records or guess a bond.
  • It is not for employment, credit, housing, tenancy or insurance decisions, and it is not legal advice.
  • If your subscription lapses it stops and tells you how to reactivate.

How your data is handled

  • Your client list never leaves Captira. When you ask "are any of these my clients", the jail records are sent to Captira and Captira returns the verdicts. Your defendants are not copied into the conversation or onto our servers.
  • Jail records are not stored. Your assistant reads the county's published source itself. We supply the rules for reading it and the matching, not the data.
  • We do not collect your conversations. We record which county was asked for and whether the read worked, so we know where to add coverage. No names, no transcripts.
  • Matches carry the minimum. A match returns a name and the Captira file reference, nothing more.

Costs

Reading rosters and checking them against your clients are included in your subscription.

Identity lookups, meaning a person's contact and background detail, are a paid action. The assistant always asks you before running one.

Trouble

  • "Subscription required" means your Captira MCP subscription is inactive. Reactivate at app.captira.com/add-ons.
  • No "Add custom connector" option means your plan does not support custom connectors yet. ChatGPT needs Plus or Pro with developer mode switched on.
  • A county is not supported. Ask anyway. It will try, tell you honestly what it could and could not read, and log the request.
  • Results look wrong or out of date. Every report names its source and date. Check that first, then contact us with what you saw.
